Boomers on the Edge
Before smartphones. Before social media. Before anyone thought to record the evidence.
Boomers on the Edge is a weekly storytelling podcast where two lifelong friends revisit the wild, reckless, and often unbelievable adventures of their youth. Kenn and Ron trade stories from the 60s, 70s, and 80s — the mischief, the bad decisions, and the close calls that somehow didn’t kill them.
From gritty Detroit bars and summer days on the lake to high school locker rooms and blue-collar job sites, every episode blends sharp improv, vivid memories, and outrageous true tales.
It’s unfiltered nostalgia — raw, irreverent, and laugh-out-loud funny.
If you like your comedy honest, slightly inappropriate, and full of “there’s no way that really happened” moments… welcome to the edge.

In the spirit of the 1980s classic America’s Funniest Home Videos, Boomers on the Edge presents Boomers’ Funniest Home Audio—a collection of hilarious stories about accidental mishaps, bad decisions, and the moments when things go spectacularly wrong.
Kenn kicks things off with a legendary high-school-era story about a local athlete known for his incredible strength and manliness. One day, he decides to show off his skills by splitting wood with a double-edged axe in the backyard. Everything seems fine—until the axe catches the clothesline, comes flying back, and finds its way directly to his forehead. Not exactly the outcome he had in mind!
Ron then shares three unforgettable stories about Eugene, a man whose adventures around vehicles seemed to produce one mishap after another:
- The Battery Replacement – When Eugene’s SUV battery dies, he figures a boat battery might do the trick. What he forgets is that the battery’s terminals stick up too high. When he closes the hood, they make contact—and the result is an unexpected explosion!
- The Boat Trailer – While towing a boat, Eugene makes a left turn and suddenly realizes the trailer has other plans. Instead of following the vehicle, it continues straight ahead!
- Reverse Driving – When Eugene’s transmission gives out, he discovers the only way to get home is to drive in reverse—for miles, with traffic. What could possibly go wrong?
This first installment of Boomers’ Funniest Home Audio is just the beginning. Get ready for more crazy stories, accidental mishaps, questionable decisions, and pure Boomer mayhem.
Another entertaining episode of Boomers on the Edge—because sometimes the funniest stories are the ones that really happened!

Hey, and welcome to Boomers on the Average. So guys in there safety who still think there's 50. Your host, Kevin and Ron. Let's get started. Hey, you like this video?
SPEAKER_01I think it's a good idea. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So uh you know we uh we've known quite a few characters in our lives uh through uh high school, work. You guys have heard stories that we've told and uh you know on TV our audience might be familiar with the American home videos, I think they've been America's funniest videos videos, okay. And you know, we were talking earlier, like is it really funny when somebody falls or slips or hurt themselves? But I don't know, people have been laughing, you know.
SPEAKER_01When I watched my wife laugh and her mother laugh watching those things, I always go, Do you think that's funny?
SPEAKER_00And she goes, Ken, they wouldn't put it on TV. So they like those dad hitting the getting hit in the nuts ones. Right. So we thought, you know, Americans, what is it? America's funniest videos. So these might be the you know, boomers on the edge funniest stories stories, because it's not a video.
SPEAKER_01Um, but kind of like things that happened were kind of accidents. Yeah. So maybe maybe people should have been paying a little bit more attention.
SPEAKER_00Maybe there's a message there. We we've got so many of these that we probably could have multiple episodes, so this will definitely be episode one. Ken, weren't you uh safety guy at work? So why don't you kick this off with one of our stories about our buddies that have kind of done goofy things? Sometimes even it includes us. More than one. All people make mistakes and accidents. Why don't you relate at least one you've gotten now? I got one too.
SPEAKER_01Well, yes, I was a safety guy at work, and I was responsible for putting out a safety message each week. And I can honestly say that I've you know had a few accidents myself where I wasn't thinking things all the way through. We all have. And they might have been part of some other episodes like when we were homeowners. That hasn't been. Oh, that's right. You have some, yeah. Yeah, and then it hasn't we haven't played that one yet for the listening audience.
SPEAKER_00But my favorite parts when you you I'll just I'll just get everybody going by saying that little teaser. You somehow go flying in the air and hit the other wall into the wall, yeah, and then yell up to your what your wife yells down, something wrong.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, but anyway, that's on another episode. Yeah, that's on another episode, which you will understand that even I've made mistakes when it comes to safety. But we are this this particular story that we're gonna talk about, it's kind of humorous. The first one, it's kind of humorous, but it's it could be really, really scary as well. Was told to us by an individual who was one person removed from the actual incident itself, so we don't think too much detail was actually lost. Right. So they had an accident.
SPEAKER_00And I want to say that this story is legendary within our high school crew. Yes, of course, to make sense.
SPEAKER_01So this one day, this guy, and and there was a whole family.
SPEAKER_00We knew a number of families that, you know, they were kind of big athletes, and the tough guy thing was the starter. You know, manly manly, you gotta be manly gotta go out and fight it. From a neighborhood with especially these big families with lots of guys and they're manly. And this was one of those families.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and you know, like they wanted to be bouncers and stuff like that. Yeah, that was fun.
SPEAKER_00They wanted to enter the tough man contest down at the Silver Dove.
SPEAKER_01And all that's supposed to be fun, apparently. Yeah, not getting the bed crashed in. So this one individual, one of the so one of the family members is in the backyard and he's splitting wood. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, everybody does that, you know, in the middle of the suburbs. He's got a woods.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's got a like we didn't have a fireplace that ran.
SPEAKER_00It's not like we lived in Alaska.
SPEAKER_01We didn't have a fireplace. We didn't even have a fireplace. But but maybe they didn't. If you're gonna be so he's splitting wood, with a double bladed or a double-faced axe.
SPEAKER_00Meaning it's sharp on both ends. Sharp on both ends. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So he's with his buddy, you know, and sometimes guys are gonna try to show off to their buddies and stuff, you know. That happens. So he says to his friend, I bet. He's a pretty big guy, pretty strong guy. He says, I bet I could split this log with one strike of the axe. Of course. You cannot. Oh, I can. You want to bet? Yeah, let's bet. So they do some type of bet. And this guy. I can't believe this story. This guy, with all the gusto he can, he gets that, he goes to get that axe way behind the back of his house. Back of his house. Yeah. And he stretches for all get out to get this thing going as fast as he can. And he comes forward with this axe down towards the log that he's gonna split. But he didn't realize that he caught the clothesline on the way down.
SPEAKER_00Kids probably don't know what a clothesline is, but yeah, there's a rope above him.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but he caught the clothesline on the way down, acted like a spring, or what did you call it? Uh effect. He hits the the log and then as hard as he can. And this axe, it's double-faced, comes flying back at him, up at him, right? And goes right into his forehead, into his skull. Oh. And and you know, they're kind of tough dudes, you know. Oh, they were definitely tough. And stuck in his head, and he actually had to like kind of like jimmy it around a little bit, like maneuver it out to pull it out. And he pulls it out and he looks at the guy that he's in the yard with that he's trying to impress and the guy he made the bet with. And he looks at him and he goes, How bad does it look?
SPEAKER_00How's it look?
SPEAKER_01And that guy that's looking at it, he's like white as a ghost. He's ready to like pass out. It would have been you, it would have passed out. It would have passed out. He says, He says, You gotta take time to get to the hospital. He says, because that's not that's not good. He says, he says, You think it's that bad? He goes, Look at all the blood on the ground. He goes, Yeah, you gotta get to the hospital. So maybe he had a really thick skull. Maybe he was tough, tough guy. And then he goes to the hospital, yeah, and the doctors said, Son, you don't know how close you came to killing yourself. He says, like micro millimeters. Like that's how close he came to killing himself. So now I had never seen this individual, you know, after it happened. Yeah. Because it happened a little bit after we were out of high school, actually.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, actually, I think you're right.
SPEAKER_01It's about a high school buddy, but uh about a high school guy that was in our classes and stuff like that, gym classes, you know. He was an athlete. I remember one day I was up at the store and he was there looking for a used car. Okay. Okay. And I remembered the story. Uh-huh. So I was saying hi to him and stuff like that, but he didn't know. I was really well, I did notice the big scar on his forehead. I wasn't ogling, but I do This was many years later, yeah, and he had an obvious scar. A obvious scar about where an axe would hit you if it flew back up at your head. And so I'm pretty sure that everything in that story was true. But there's other stories. Yes, there's gotta be other stories.
SPEAKER_00You know, just like American uh home videos, we're gonna go on to our next American uh funniest story. We were comparing notes here on which ones we have, and we probably have hundreds, but we'll just do a couple of them. So one of my bodies from work, he had uh Ford Bronco, Ken likes to get in all these details. So he was a manly man too. He is another manly man. Maybe this should have been really called manly men. I don't know. But this guy always liked to have the best of everything. The biggest, the biggest it mainly was about the biggest and most horsepower and most whatever, whatever he was buying. If he had an air conditioner, he wanted the most BTUs, he wanted the most uh horsepower. He went it ten cylinders wasn't eight cylinders wasn't enough for him. He had to have a 10-cylinder Dodge power wagon.
SPEAKER_01He had to have and if you ever went on any hunting trips with the guys, he did not want to sleep four to a room.
SPEAKER_00This is the same guy, and we called him Eugene, so we'll call him Eugene and so God loved Eugene. We love him, but he has full of funny stories. So one day his battery went on his bronco and he pulls the battery, and he had to get to work. He wanted to go to work, you know. So he talked about Ken's talking like him. He pulls the old the battery out, he doesn't do any measurements or anything. He takes a battery he had in a boat, a marine battery, probably a marine battery, but I guess it had to be. And so all I know is the way it happened was it had the posts on the top. He takes the battery out, he puts the new battery in, and then he he decides to try to put the hood down, and it's so it completed the circuit when he did that. Yeah, and then the whole thing like blew up apparently and he blew back. Oh, that would have been fun to see. Pretty hilarious. Tell another one of his uh stories. He had another incident where he had hitched up the trailer to the same Bronco, except he went to go make a left-hand turn and uh he happened to notice that the trailer kept going forward. He went left and the boat went straight.
SPEAKER_01The car went it went right through the intersector.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the same same guy. One one more story about him. Eugene. Eugene. He uh had a company car. We all had company cars at the time. This is an 80s story. His transmission went out on the uh on the car. But it it it was so it wouldn't go forward. Okay. So he decided he could get home if he went in reverse. And these guys go, I can't believe you drove the car all the way home in reverse. And he goes, Yeah, it got kind of tricky when I made a left-hand turn. So that was a legendary one of his. All right, so hey, thanks for listening to that. We'll probably have some more uh short little stories about uh kind of uh we'll call America's funniest videos type of thing, uh, which would be on audio, obviously.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and be careful when you're be careful when you're out there doing things, notice your surroundings, keep your head on the swivel.
SPEAKER_00All jokes aside, Ken is a safety expert. Yeah, keep your head on the swivel. Thanks. Thanks, everyone. Hey, thanks for joining us here on Boomers on the Edge. We hope you'll join us again. And until then, have a great time. Thank you.
